How we’ll build skills

Set a firm foundation in the studio, then apply the skills in real spaces.

This custom curriculum is based on deliberate progression. Start with a shared foundation of photography and creative direction in a focused studio environment. Then apply the learning on location to troubleshoot the trickiest of environments. The goal is that you can walk into any space and confidently capture media-ready images.

Pre-work

Camera foundations, before we meet

Short, self-paced lessons on manual mode and the histogram, sent in advance. Everyone arrives with shared vocabulary, so we can get further, faster once we’re together in person.

Phase 01 — Phoenix Studio

The studio workshop

A full hands-on day for the team, focused squarely on the two areas with the most room to grow: lighting and composition. We work where every variable is in your control, so the mechanics become second nature.

  • Shaping light
  • Composition
  • Creating contrast
  • Building depth
    You leave with
  • A full day of hands-on, coached instruction
  • Lighting & composition reference sheets from your real setups
  • Coached practice images for each participant
  • A recap and focus areas to practice before Palm Beach

Phase 02 — Challenging Conditions

Difficult rooms, difficult dishes

Dim and mixed-light dining rooms, harsh midday exteriors, reflective glassware and quickly-fading plates. We’ll start with the most challenging spaces to capture the creative energy most often found at the start of the day.

  • Managing the environment
  • Mixed lighting & color temperature
  • Difficult subjects
    You leave with
  • A full coached day in genuine working conditions
  • Usable images of real dishes and venues, captured on the day
  • A problem-solving reference for the toughest settings

Your best rooms, and a standard that stays.

Phase 03 — Flagship Outlets

Signature outlets & the visual brand guide

With the tricky spaces out of the way, you’ll bring new enthusiasm to your most visible outlets and signature dishes. We’ll wrap our time together by setting the stage for your visual brand guide, walking through what we uncovered across all of our training days that matters to brand standards as it relates to food photography. You’ll receive an initial Food Photography Visual Brand Guide, a living document you can continue to hone and build as your skills grow from our time together.

  • Signature outlets
  • Brand-ready assets
  • Visual strategy
    You leave with
  • A full coached day at your flagship outlets
  • A set of brand-ready hero images of real menu items
  • A facilitated visual strategy session with the team
